Why do the loan documents show a higher loan amount than my contract total?
GreenSky approves customers for an amount higher than the project’s total cost. This is called Open to Buy. Much like a credit card, the customer has a limit but only has to pay back what is used. On the day of the installation, the customer will approve the loan amount, and their loan statements will reflect that amount.
Why do the loan documents show an interest rate even though I have a 12-months same-as-cash loan?
There are laws on the books requiring lenders to give truth and lending information.
This means lenders are required to give the worst-case scenario. These are called same-as-cash loans, so there is no interest if they are paid in full.
The worst case is if the customer doesn’t pay their loan or doesn’t pay in full within the loan term time. If this is the case, the interest rate on the loan documents will be added.
If the loan is paid off within the required term, then no interest will be charged.
Why do my loan statements show a breakdown of principal and interest when I have a no-interest loan if paid within the term?
This is GreenSky’s way of tracking the worst-case scenario if the loan doesn’t get paid within the term.
Once the loan is close to being paid off, the customer’s statement will reflect the total paid and will apply as just principal.
